accent wall

Posted by dasfseegdse Senin, 11 April 2011 0 komentar

a local engineering firm recently hired me to do some "minimal sprucing"

to a few areas of their office. we started with the entry.

i don't use accent walls very often, but in this case it was the

perfect solution to bring in some color to the space, but still allow the

companies logo, on the adjacent wall, to take center stage.

before:

(sorry, this may be the worst, most blurry before picture ever...)

what was done:

removed the vintage cabinet and large vintage map

(to be placed in another area of the office),

and removed the two small framed pieces.

we moved up some great photos that were downstairs in the office, painted the wall, and replaced the two smaller framed pieces with one larger one, containing the companies mission statement.

these simple, and minimal cost changes resulted in a more modern,

sophisticated feel to the entry vestibule.

the paint color is:

sherwin williams 6208

pewter green

(isn't it pretty?)

house hunting update

**warning**

pictureless post.

it's been a while since i posted anything about our househunting.

we have still been looking...slowly.

we have looked at a LOT of houses that seemed like they

might have potential....but a quick walk-through would inevitably

reveal some unforgivable, tragic flaw.

like a kitchen the size of my head.

or, a 4 bedroom house, in which you have to walk

THROUGH TWO bedroom to get to the third??

or a radon gas leak.

or a basement with 5'8" ceilings.

(not good when your husband is 6'2")

or a breakfast room that has a door to the outside,

a door to the master bedroom, an opening to the kitchen,

an opening to the entry, a closet door,

and a door to the basement...

ei-yi-yi.

we actually had a ray of hope on a building lot....and thought we might even be able to pull off building another house...

but that didn't work out.

*sigh.

it's been a roller coaster. and not the fun,

"yay, i'm on a roller coaster" type roller coaster...

it's been more like the "ugh, i think i'm gonna barf"

type roller coaster.

house prices continue to decline.

we struggle to know if this is the "right" time to buy.

we worry about removing our kids from the schools where

they have made friends and feel comfortable.

thanks for all of the encouragement...i know that we

will eventually find something that works for

our family...something we can make our own,

fits our budget, and feels like home.

i just need to be patient...

ugh, why does being patient

always take SO LONG?

timeless.

i tore this image from a magazine over 8 years ago.

as i sift through the many magazine pages that i have torn out, i inevitably

have to toss quite a few of them.

bathrooms that seemed "cutting edge" 7 years ago

can sometimes have a way of feeling "tired" when i

see them now...or, just....not what appeals to me anymore.

my taste, (and yours too, i am guessing) has evolved.

but this room, this image... has been with me a very long time.

you can even see the little marks from the adhesive

of the photo album i once had it mounted in.

there are so many things that i love about this room:

the overscaled lantern

the abstract art

the moldings/trim

the nailhead? trim on the drapery panels

the soft and sophisticated FEEL of the room

the grass on the table

the classic chairs

the patterned carpet

the seating area in the bay window

the fact that this room has stood the test of time...

i think that this room will look just as beautiful

in 10 years as it does today...

and as it did over 8 years ago.

truly, timeless.
